Hello there! I'm Maria del Mar, born in a small town in the south of Spain. I've been fascinated by human connections since I was little, so I did the obvious thing and studied psychology. Then the world shut down in 2020, and in the middle of a global pandemic I discovered the concept of a startup. I haven't looked back since!
I grew up helping in my family's restaurants, where I learned not to be shy, that being persistent (okay, a bit of a pest) takes you far, how to solve problems as they come up, and that a good cup of coffee can improve your day exponentially.
I did my university internship at Rviewer, a Barcelona startup, where I worked remotely with an incredible team who taught me that Java is not just an island in Indonesia, and that the startup world isn't so different from working with family while plates of food fly around you and you keep serving tables because the clock waits for no one. I learned a ton about tech, stayed shameless in the best way, and must have done something right, because after three months they offered me a permanent contract.
Then Miami came along. I wanted to travel and try the "corporate" world, so I got on a plane alone and ended up working side by side with the CHRO of a multinational with 1,000+ employees in the US alone. Later I took on Canada, and finally Mexico. That's where I learned that American coffee is terrible and that the American dream is not compatible with the Spanish siesta. Time to get to work!
First things first: I always work with music on. I like to ask questions, analyze and solve. I love projects where there's little or nothing to start with and the result ends up being something useful that makes someone's life a bit easier. If you tell me there's a tool that can help me do X, I'll test it until I've squeezed every last drop out of it. I also love collaborating with people from different backgrounds and watching ideas evolve as each perspective adds something new.
Outside of work, you'll probably find me caught up in something for La Generación Mejor Preparada, the nonprofit I co-founded to connect young people with companies and help them understand the job market.
I might also be running late to a yoga, swimming or skating class, or whatever random sport I decided to try that week. You'll almost certainly catch me sipping a chai (too much caffeine in my teenage years), escaping to the beach, or planning the menu for a themed dinner with friends.
